Hyderabad, 9 September 2024 – The Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Hyderabad Range to enhance the protection of minority, women, and child rights in the region.
As part of the agreement, a Minority Facilitation Desk will be established at the district level under the DIGP office. The desk will address rights violations and ensure legal protections for vulnerable groups. In addition, peace and fact-finding committees will be formed at both district and regional levels to proactively manage minority rights issues.
The DIGP will appoint a focal person to oversee minority rights at the regional level and ensure regular follow-ups on cases. The office will also hold meetings with stakeholders to coordinate efforts in protecting minority communities. Furthermore, the desk will maintain records of cases involving minorities, women, and children to ensure legal protections are upheld.
CSSP will support the facilitation desk by training police officials and raising public awareness. It will also serve as an independent evaluator, assessing the performance of the Facilation desks’ focal persons from the police department across nine districts. CSSP will engage in advocacy and organize public forums to promote social harmony, focusing on issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and human rights. This partnership marks a significant step toward creating a safer environment for vulnerable groups in the region, encouraging collaboration between law enforcement and civil society.
